BETH HUMPHREY
JUNE 13 - JULY 12, 2026
My work is composed of printed, painted and drawn elements created in batches through drawing, monoprint, cut paper, and stencil processes. Individual components are broken down into simplified shapes and repeatedly arranged and rearranged until a resolved composition emerges.
The work explores patterns and forms that reference human-made barriers, structures, and systems of control, which are set in tension with shapes and marks suggesting organic growth and natural processes. These organic elements appear to emerge from, absorb, or overtake the non-organic forms, evoking moments of abandonment and reclamation. The compositions consider how natural forces interrupt and erode human attempts to contain, organize, or dominate the environment, underscoring the fragility and impermanence of those efforts. The work reflects an ongoing interest in the illusion of control and the inevitability of change within both constructed and natural systems.
