DEBORAH FREEDMAN
JUNE 13 - JULY 12, 2026
Collage has always been part of my practice. In the 70’s I made marbled papers by floating oil paint on the surface of a children’s swimming pool which I arranged and pasted into large landscape paintings. The current collages are also landscapes, composed by cutting, painting and gluing fragments from etchings and monoprints from the last 20 years. By incorporating elements from earlier work I am reclaiming aspects of myself.
I would not have made these pictures if I had painted them. Making a collage is a liberating assemblage of past and present, formal and informal, illogical and spontaneous.
