The non-referential aspect of all my work plays primarily with geometrically formed shapes in a reductive and meditative space. There are often three dimensional elements to the paintings as well and I often think of myself as a collagist because the working process in my paintings involves moving paper shapes around in order to see and make decisions. 

But what about the literal collages? There is a looseness and speed working with paper. I feel close to the texture and delicacy of the paper and gouache as the primary materials. Although so many of the elements in these collages are similar to what I do in my paintings they have a very different feel. And it’s clear that materials and how we work with them is such a strong determinant in all our work.
