My fighter jets are constructed largely from canvas and textile fragments removed and saved from other paintings being modified and reworked in my studio. This process of repurposing collage elements brings a kind of history to the objects I make.
In my work the subject could be a businessman, a suburban house or a fighter jet; the scraps can go from one work to another, giving them a ragged continuity. I’m interested in portraying a sense of something emerging while it also appears to be falling into ruin. Creation and destruction are placed in tension.
