PAMELA J. WALLACE

JUNE 13 - JULY 12, 2026

There is a quality of collage in all of my work. When I’m not in my studio I observe places where nature has begun to re-assert itself over our built environment. I find unexpected beauty in something as simple as warped boards on a barn or unidentifiable plants emerging from crumbling concrete. Informed by these observations, my focus is on material experimentation and process. My palette is often derived from weathered or distressed surfaces that I find in industrial spaces. In the studio, on multiple tables, I have collections of parts and components that I make by welding, papermaking, casting, sewing, or other processes. These parts, by way of trial and error eventually cohere into a finished piece that pleases me and presents itself as unfamiliar, and therefore visually engaging. If a piece strongly suggests a recognizable object or narrative, I alter it, aiming for the unknown.
